The most prestigious award in African game development, this accolade recognizes the top locally-developed game that demonstrates exceptional quality, creativity, and innovation across all aspects, from design to execution. It celebrates the pinnacle of the country’s talent and is a key highlight of the Africa Games Week Awards.
WINGS Diversity Award
The WINGS Award highlights outstanding games where women and other gender marginalised developers hold key positions. The chosen winner receives a 2000€ prize.
AGW Pitch Competition
This competition offers developers a high-stakes platform to present their game concepts to a panel of industry experts and investors. It is an opportunity for participants to refine their pitches, gain valuable feedback, and potentially secure crucial support. The winner receives consultation from Pitchify.
Audience Choice Award
This democratic award is a true reflection of the gaming community’s voice. Voted on by the public, this title celebrates the game that has resonated most with players throughout the year. It’s an opportunity for fans to celebrate their favourite developers and projects, highlighting a game that has captured the hearts and minds of the audience
Social Impact
Award
This award honors a game that goes beyond entertainment to address a real-world social issue or create positive change. Presented in partnership with Games For Change, a leading organization in the social impact games space, this award recognizes a title that leverages the power of play to educate, inspire, and foster empathy.
GamesConnect AFRICA Award
The GamesConnect AFRICA Award celebrates trailblazing game development professionals who are shaping the future of Africa’s gaming landscape. This award recognises individuals who push creative and technical boundaries but also strengthens connections across the continent’s diverse gaming ecosystems.
Career Achievement Award
The highest individual honour bestowed at Africa Games Week, this award recognises a visionary or veteran who has made a profound and lasting contribution to the African games industry. It celebrates a career marked by pioneering work, leadership, and a legacy that has helped shape the continent’s vibrant development scene.
At the discretion of the AFRICA GAMES WEEK judges panel, a winner will be selected.

The AGW 2026 Award Ceremony will be hosted during AFRICA GAMES WEEK 2026 in Cape Town. We are honoured to have these awards presented by many esteemed figures within the African and international gaming space.
